The Asia Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) is an annual scientific meeting of regional organizations in Gastroenterology and related fields held in collaboration with member societies and the four major regional bodies including the Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE), Asia Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy (APSDE), Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), and International Society for Digestive Surgery (ISDS). Its mission is to provide a medical forum for education and research in Digestive Diseases.

The first APDW was held in Sydney in September 2001. It was hosted by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA). More than 1,800 delegates attended the various keypad sessions, case-based discussions, debates, young investigator presentations and workshops. It was made possible, largely by the four principal sponsors namely Astra-Zeneca, Glaxo-Smith-Kline, Hofmann La-Roche and Novartis. Many other companies and exhibitors strongly supported the lively trade display.

The spirit of the first APDW gave birth to a new commitment to hold annual regional meetings in Gastroenterology / Hepatology, that would strengthen communication and cooperation in the Asia Pacific region.

In February 2002, APDW was held as a postgraduate course within the World Congress of Gastroenterology in Bangkok, Thailand with a theme "Viral Hepatitis and Gastric Cancer in the Molecular Age"

The following year, despite the SARS outbreak in the region, APDW 2003 was held in Singapore and it was very successful with its outstanding scientific programme and interactive meetings. Beijing, China hosted the fourth APDW from 04-07 October 2004, starting with a one-day postgraduate course covering Gastroenterology, Digestive Endoscopy, and Hepatology. It was a great success and was attended by about 3500 delegates.

In September 2005, Korea proudly hosted APDW 2005 in the vibrant city of Seoul. The conference venue was superb and so was the academic program. The social events were exceptionally attractive and well organized.

Through the years, APDW has established itself as the pre-eminent meeting focused solely on advancing the science and practice of Gastroenterology. Each year, APDW delegates look forward to honing their knowledge of the study and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases and to discuss with their peers groundbreaking research and progress on treating patients with such diseases.
